Professor Christopher Clapham awarded an OBE in 2025 Birthday Honours

We are delighted to congratulate Professor Christopher Clapham, who was awarded an OBE in the 2025 Birthday Honours, for “services to academia, foreign policy, and UK relations with the Horn of Africa”. Christopher is a cherished member of the Centre of African Studies and has been a central part of the Centre’s intellectual community over the past decades. He was the editor of The Journal of Modern African Studies (1997-2012) and he is the author of many books, including Haile Selassie’s Government (1969), Transformation and Continuity in Revolutionary Ethiopia (1988), Africa and the International System (1996), The Horn of Africa: State Formation and Decay (2017).
