About
The Political Parties in Africa Project (PPA), supported by the Institute for Democracy, Citizenship and Public Policy in Africa (IDCPPA), invites paper proposals for our 4th annual conference on 2 & 3 March 2023. The conference will take place virtually.
We welcome papers on any aspect of political party activity on the continent, and early career researchers and doctoral students from Africa are particularly encouraged to submit a paper proposal.
To submit a proposal for the conference, please follow this link to a Google Form to complete the requested information, including contact details and an abstract, by 14 November 2022. If you are willing to serve as a discussant, the form will allow you to make that indication. Please contact the PPA team (politicalpartiesafrica@uct.ac.za) if you have any questions and/or trouble accessing the Google Form.
We look forward to receiving your abstracts!

About the Political Parties in Africa Project
Since its formation in 2018, the PPA project has launched a multi-country data collection project, which is currently gathering data on party activities in 17 countries across Africa. It has also organized conferences and workshops bringing together cutting-edge researchers from across the Global North and South, and maintained a robust presence at the national meetings of organizations like the American Political Science Association and the African Studies Association. A special issue on “Party Structures and Organization Building in Africa”, edited by the PPA Steering Committee, was recently published at Party Politics, featuring contributions from the first PPA conference. This virtual conference builds on this strong foundation and aims to foster intellectual connections and a sense of community around this growing research agenda.
