Centre of African Studies

After completing the MPhil I was awarded an AHRC collaborative PhD studentship shared between the Department of History at Durham University and the Africa Research Group at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. My PhD looks at the history of local government in Kenya, 1952-2002. The interdisciplinary nature of the MPhil enabled me to pursue different academic fields to my undergraduate degree such as history, and the KiSwahili language training has proved invaluable. I am still in touch with lots of my 2011 classmates, many of whom can be found elsewhere on the continent.
