I am interested in how people live with violent conflict on a daily basis. Specifically I am interested in how violence modifies social and economic networks and what influence this might have on household decision-making in such areas. Working under the supervision of Dr Devon Curtis, a specialist in conflict and peacebuilding in the Great Lakes, my MPhil research considered how conflict has reconfigured networks of authority in the Masisi area of N.Kivu, DRC. Prior to returning to study I worked for a number of years in conflict-affected countries, primarily in Africa. Coming to CAS has gave me the opportunity to reflect on some of these experiences and consider them within a more theoretical framework. It also gave me the chance to engage with colleagues with a wealth of different experiences, knowledge and backgrounds.
