Research Supervision

I am currently supervising six PhD students. Topics include nationalism in Katanga, the Anglican Church in post-colonial Uganda, prisons in colonial and post-colonial Uganda, ethnicity and chiefship in twentieth-century Botswana, the veterinary service in colonial Kenya and early colonial elections in the British Empire.

I welcome research proposals in areas relating to the political, intellectual and cultural history of Africa.
