How the Library is Arranged

Journals
  • Latest issues of journals are on the racks ; lift the racks for previous issues.
  • Bound journals are in the bookcase next to the single issues and continue on  the other side of the case
Classmarks with a number in brackets
  • Most of the books  in the library are arranged by region or country in Africa
This is indicated by a number between brackets, e.g.
    (6) Africa
    (66) West Africa
    (669) Nigeria.
See the Guide signs on the end of each shelving unit.
The subject number  follows the regional prefix,
    e.g. (6):330.11 - economic development  in Africa,
Classmarks without a number in brackets
  • Books/ Journals etc. not exclusively about Africa are arranged on the shelves marked Non- Africa on the wall opposite the study area and have no bracketed prefix just a subject classification   e.g. 325.254 Refugees.
Rerence books (Africa & General)
  • Reference books are also on the wall opposite the study area
Bibliographies
  • Bibliographies are in the side room to the right of the library.
  • If a book is not where you would expect it to be, check the bottom shelf where large books are shelved out of sequence.
It could also be in the mobile shelves in a separate store.–

  • Ask library staff if you need help
